Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment

Marisvitae Ceylon believes that access to information about our work — how we produce Ceylon Giant Prawn, where it comes from, and how we work with the communities that land it — should be open to everyone. This includes people with disabilities, people using assistive technology, and people navigating the web in ways that differ from the default.

We are committed to making www.marisvitae.lk usable and understandable by as wide an audience as reasonably possible. This is an ongoing effort, not a one-time exercise. We treat accessibility as a design responsibility, not a compliance checkbox.

The Standard We Aim For

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the international standard published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.1 AA is the widely-recognised benchmark for accessible web content and is referenced in accessibility legislation in the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other markets in which our website is read.

We test against WCAG 2.1 AA using a combination of automated tools, manual review, and — where feasible — direct testing with assistive technology such as screen readers.

What We Have Done

The following accessibility features are in place across the website:

  • Semantic page structure — headings, lists, and landmarks are marked up so screen readers can navigate the site logically

  • Descriptive text for images — meaningful images carry alternative text describing what they show and, where relevant, the context in which they appear

  • Keyboard navigation — the site can be operated using a keyboard alone, without a mouse or touch input, for the majority of interactions

  • Colour contrast — body text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds

  • Resizable text — text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality

  • Descriptive link text — hyperlinks describe their destination rather than relying on "click here" or "read more"

  • Form labels — form fields carry visible labels associated with their inputs

  • Consistent navigation — the header, footer, and menu structure remain consistent across every page

  • Language declaration — the primary language of the page is declared so screen readers pronounce content correctly

Known Limitations

We are honest about where the site does not yet meet our accessibility standard. The following limitations are known to us and we are actively working to address them:

  • Some data tables — including the prawn grades table on the Giant Freshwater Prawn page — are currently presented as images rather than native HTML tables. This means the information in them is not fully accessible to screen readers. We are rebuilding these as native tables.

  • Some interactive components provided by our website platform (Wix) — including slideshows and image carousels — may have accessibility gaps that we cannot fully control. Where possible, we provide the same information in an alternative accessible form elsewhere on the site.

  • On smaller browser windows and certain mobile layouts, the navigation menu may not display optimally. We are working on responsive behaviour improvements.

  • Some contact forms may present layout inconsistencies on certain mobile devices. If you experience difficulty submitting a form, please contact us directly at info@marisvitae.lk.

  • PDF documents and downloadable brochures published on the site may not yet meet full accessibility standards. We are reviewing our document accessibility as part of ongoing work. If you need an accessible version of a specific document, please contact us and we will provide one.

Third-Party Content and Services

Our website is built on Wix.com, which provides the underlying platform. Some accessibility characteristics are determined by that platform and its native components, over which we have limited control. Wix publishes its own accessibility statement at wix.com.

Our website also integrates the following third-party services:

  • WhatsApp (Meta Platforms) — for direct messaging via the WhatsApp button in the footer

  • LinkedIn, Facebook — as external social media links

The accessibility of these external services is governed by their respective providers, not by us.

Alternative Formats

If you need information from our website in an alternative format — larger text, a plain-text version of a document, a described image, or content read aloud — please contact us. We will provide the information in the most accessible format reasonably available to us, at no cost, and within a reasonable time frame (typically within 10 working days).

Feedback and How to Contact Us

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on our website, or if you have suggestions for how we could improve, we want to hear from you. Please contact:

Escalation

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may raise the matter with the relevant authority in your jurisdiction. In Sri Lanka, matters relating to the rights of persons with disabilities are addressed under the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, No. 28 of 1996, administered by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

In the European Union and the United Kingdom, digital accessibility complaints can be raised with the national supervisory authority for your country of residence.

Review of This Statement

This Accessibility Statement will be reviewed and updated at least annually, or whenever we make significant changes to the website or discover new accessibility issues. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was last updated.

How This Statement Was Prepared

This statement was prepared based on a self-assessment of the website, informed by automated accessibility scanning tools and manual review. It reflects our understanding of the site as at the last updated date shown at the top of this page.

We have not yet commissioned an independent third-party accessibility audit. Doing so is on our roadmap. When it is completed, this statement will be updated to reflect the audit's findings and any conformance level that can be formally certified.
